Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna is landing in Seoul for her first-ever live show in the country this weekend as part of her “Chapters” world tour.
The concert is set to take place this Sunday at Hana Tour V-Hall in Hongdae and is the first R&B concert to be put on by organizer Planet Hustle, in collaboration with gigguide.co.kr and TourBrat.
“Traveling artists are the mouthpiece to the world for other cultures. Their fans, friends and family get to re-live an artist’s experience through his or her recollection of their visit,” Planet Hustle said. “We want to tell the story of Korea’s beauty to the world, so we began bringing influential artists to both entertain music lovers and serve as a gateway to the wonder of Korean culture.”
Yuna began writing music and singing at the age of 14, and performed for the first time as a creative outlet while studying in law school. She then opened a MySpace page for her music, which garnered over 1 million plays, and released her first self-titled EP in 2008. This grabbed the attention of indie label Fader and she was signed in 2011. By 2012, she was playing at major music festivals in the U.S. alongside some of the biggest names in the world music industry.
Since then, she has released two EPs and three full-length albums in the U.S. with the latest – “Chapters” – gaining the spotlight for her collaborations R&B singers Usher and Jhene Aiko. She has also worked with the likes of Pharrell Williams and DJ Premier.
She is the only Malaysian singer to “cross over into global pop stardom” as well as an observant Muslim, according to Planet Hustle. She “is used to transcending expectations – and she will do so again at the Seoul stop of the Asia leg of her ‘Chapters’ world tour.”
The organizer added that fans can expect an amazing show this weekend.
“Yuna is so personal in her shows and she really touches the crowd with her art. The fact that she uses live instruments to make her music blossom throughout the room will make this one of those experiences that music lovers will remember for a lifetime.”
The show is set to take place on Dec. 11 at Hana Tour V-Hall in Hongdae. Opening for Yuna are Korean R&B singer Jeebanoff and American hip-hop DJ and rapper Pinnacle TheHustler. Tickets are 66,000 won online at TourBrat.com (http://tourbrat.com/yuna-chapters-tour-seoul/?lang=en) and 77,000 won at the door.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.
