Dance takeover: 100% Silk
Thanks to "Project Outings," a well-connected and ultra-stylish new booking/party promotion based in Seoul, the city will be host to back-to-back showcases for LA’s breakout dance label, 100% Silk, on July 27 and 28.
Some call it ‘80s dance music revivalism; some call it “hipster house.” Whatever the term, 100% Silk is responsible for some of the best, most challenging and downright fun dance music in the game today.
Started by musician/DIY royalty Amanda Brown, 100% Silk (sister imprint to the longer-running Not Not Fun) specializes in an eclectic mix of acid, house, Italo, space disco and woozy boogie.
While Friday will feature a bevy of chilled-out live performances from 100% Silk artists (with real instruments and everything!), Saturday will have these same artists returning for DJ sets in what is sure to be a sweaty, hedonistic good time.
The artists
Sapphire Slows is a Tokyo producer who makes house-infused bedroom pop. Ideal for fans of dreamy, blissed-out electronica, the Cocteau Twins and Casiotone keyboards.
Ital is the propulsive solo project of Daniel Martin-McCormick (Mr. Sex Worker, and one half of Mi Ami). With a sound that is jagged, dynamic and wholly amorphous, Ital is boundary-pushing dance music you can actually dance to.
Magic Touch is the brainchild of San Francisco-based dance-floor motivator Damon Palermo (the other Mi Ami, and a regular collaborator with Jonas Reinhardt). A breathtaking live drummer, Damon has been able to translate his considerable instrumental skills into some of the most engaging synthetic drum programming this side of Aphex Twins.
