CANCELLATION OF CANADIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS PARTY
This is to follow up on the previous article which was posted on the Christmas Event by Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CanCham Korea), which was scheduled for Saturday, December 17th.
CanCham Korea recently made an announcement this week that due to unforeseen circumstances around the Gwanghwamun area and the recent political protests, their Christmas Event has been cancelled for Saturday, December 17th and moved to a tentative date in January 2017.
They regret to make this decision, but given the problems with transportation in the area and potential safety issues, they feel this is the best decision for everyone.
CanCham Korea will provide a full refund for all purchased tickets, and are asking all registered guests to send their bank name, account number and account holder’s name to email@example.com. They will have refunds completed by Friday, December 16th.

CanCham Korea: A Year in Review
The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (CanCham Korea) has been prolific in their community work this year. In 2016, the Chamber has continued to organize networking events for their members, host social events for their Canadian friends and even had time to honor their fellow countrymen (and women) in winning their Olympic medals on their social media As the year draws to end, it’s time to sit back and take a look at the chamber’s achievements this year.
February: Breakfast Meeting with Canadian Olympic Committee (COC)
The year kicked off with a breakfast meeting for members with key leaders from the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) who were visiting Seoul to gear up with their preparations for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. CanCham holds breakfast meetings regularly to give opportunity for members to hear from renowned speakers and share insight and knowledge.
May: Support The Fort: Seoul
The year continued with the news that the wildfires in Fort Murray had spread to the surrounding regions of Alberta. CanCham Korea co-hosted a fundraising event with Shannon Hughes and Janaya Greenwood at the end of May to raise money for those affected by the fires. The Chamber accepted donations for raffles to run the event which helped the families in the area, eventually donating the proceeds to the Canadian Red Cross to support the cause.
June: Canada Day
The annual Canada Day celebration took place at the end of June on the beautiful grounds of Dulwich College School. The day was filled with scorching sunshine as more than 300 guests came to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday. The afternoon saw musical performances, a kids’ area and buffet burgers as CanCham Korea look forward to a special 150th year celebration in 2017.
August: Canadian Alumni Night
The annual Canadian Alumni Evening was held in late August at the Canadian Embassy. A host of mentors were invited for the guests to network with as past graduates, business representatives and members were in attendance. The mentors included board members from the Chamber from different industries. Some of the Chamber’s sponsors, including Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt Hotel and ELCA provided the prizes for a raffle. The event was a great success as more than 100 guests reminisced about their school days while spending a memorable evening at the Canadian embassy. Look out for details of next summer’s get-together on the CanCham Korea website.
October: Canadian Thanksgiving
In Early October, CanCham Korea held their annual Thanksgiving dinner at Craftworks in Itaewon. The dinner was an amazing success with a full three-course Canadian turkey traditional meal served. A mixture of members, their families and friends joined in the fun with more than 40 guests. Here’s looking forward to more tasty treats this Christmas.
October: Commonwealth Chambers’ Networking Event
Back in October, commonwealth chambers in Korea were busy with one of their joint collaborations: the 2016 Commonwealth Chambers’ Networking Event. With more than 300 attendees, the networking evening saw a total of six chambers working together. The collaboration was successful for all chambers involved and it is hoped that more joint events with the other commonwealth groups will take place next year.
November: Tavern Nights
Tavern Nights have become a staple of CanCham Korea calendar with the networking event taking place every two months. Taking place at various Canadian pubs and restaurants in Seoul, Tavern Night invites both members and non-members alike to enjoy food, drinks and networking . Each evening boasts a special theme or guest, with last month’s meet rubbing shoulders with members of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC). Aimed at members in providing an ample business opportunity, non-members can also come and enjoy the ambiance and meet others from the industry. Check the website or CanCham Korea’s Facebook for the next event.
